IGP Condemns Act Committed By Human Rights Activist, Orders Express Prosecution Of Case As Professor, Other Culprits In Custody

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Usman Alkali Baba, has strongly condemned the grievous assault of a female Police Officer, Inspector Teju Moses, by her principal who is a Legal practitioner and human rights activist, Prof. Zainab Duke Abiola and her domestic staff comprising the house maid, one Rebecca Enechido and a male suspect currently at large.  Zainab Duke, an Mbaise born activist, grievously assaulted her orderly in company of some accomplices on Tuesday 20th September, 2022 at her residence in Garki, Abuja, due to the refusal of the orderly to breach professional ethics by carrying out menial and domestic chores at her house.  The IGP has directed the express prosecution of the arrested suspects who are currently in Police custody, as the preliminary investigation shows overwhelming evidence of culpability on the part of the Professor and her domestic staff. Kano To Spend N1.2bn For Reconstruction Of Roundabouts And Maintenance Of 42 Roads

The Kano state government is going to spend over N1.2 billion on the construction of roundabouts, rehabilitation and maintenance of various metropolitan roads which are in a state of disrepair as a result of the prevailing heavy downpour occasioned by floods. The state commissioner for information, Malam Muhammad Garba, who stated during the weekend, said some roundabouts that included ones at A A Rano Filling Station and First Bank, among others, have also been slated for reconstruction. He added that a technical committee comprising of engineers from the Ministry of Works and Infrastructure, the state Urban Planning and Development Agency as well as other Ministries, Department and Agencies has been constituted to study the situation for an urgent action. Gov Zulum Shares N100 Million To 1000 Youths In Biu, Says Unemployment Is A Big Problem.

Borno State Governor, Babagana Umara Zulum, had on Wednesday, 14th September 2022  distributed a grant of N100m as empowerment to 1,000 unemployed youths from different wards in Biu Local Government Area.  The grant is meant to be used as start-up capital for micro and small businesses and to stimulate the economy of Biu, Zulum said when he flagged off the distribution at Kadafur Cinema in Biu town. .  During the 3-day  visit to Biu which kicked off yesterday, Zulum commissioned a Mega-size Government Secondary School in Buratai village inside Biu for 1,500 students. Zulum Unveils Higher Islamic School In Biu, Shares Textbooks And Bicycles To Students

The Governor of Borno State, Professor Babagana Zulum has today Wednesday, 14th September 2022 in commissioned a 60-classroom community school for higher Islamic studies, built and donated by the state government in Biu Local Government Area.  Zulum arrived Biu town on Tuesday and passed the night, before today’s commissioning of the higher Islamic school.  The Higher Islamic school system enables students with certain level of Quranic knowledge, gained from traditional Islamiyas, to transit into western education for diploma programmes, and the diplomas can qualify them for admissions into universities and other tertiary schools.  The commissioned school was initiated and run by community members in an aged building, before Zulum approved the construction of an entirely new and far bigger-size school from scratch to finish.  After commissioning the school, Governor Zulum handed over a cheque of N40m to proprietor of the school, Alhaji Mohammed ‘Young’ Kidda.  T...

Many Bandits Neutralized As Troops Dislodge Their Hideouts In Kaduna Forest

Troops of Operation Forest Sanity neutralized several bandits and dislodged camps during clearance operations conducted across some hard-to-reach locations spanning Chikun and Igabi LGAs. As disclosed in an operational feedback, the troops neutralized an unspecified number of bandits while clearing out insurgent and bandit camps at Apewohe in Chikun LGA. The operation extended to Dakwala and Kunai hills in the same LGA, where more hideouts were cleared, though no contact was made with bandits.  Another camp was similarly dislodged at a location known as 'Daban Lawal Kwalba' in Igabi LGA, after the troops overpowered heavily armed bandits guarding hostages.  The troops after clearing out the bandits stormed the hideouts and rescued ten kidnapped persons who were chained and bound with ropes. Ultra-Modern Mosque Named "As Sujood" Built By Past Pro-Chancellor Of OOU

On Friday, 2nd September 2022, the Muslim Community of the "Olabisi Onabanjo University  OOU have commissioned a newly built ultra-modern mosque in the campus. The mosque was named as "As-Sujood Mosque. The University’s new mosque situated was singlehandedly built by a Muslim philanthropist and the immediate past Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the university’s Governing Council, Alhaja Tamramat Mosun Belo-Olusoga, The beautiful edifice was commissioned by the National Missioner of Ansar-Ud-Deen Society of Nigeria, Sheikh AbdurRahman Ahmad, and saw in attendance dignitaries from within and outside the university community. Hindu Cleric Arrested For Raping Two Schoolgirls In India

Hindu religious cleric identified as "Shivamurthy Murugha Sharanaru have been arrested by the Indian Police for raping two minor schoolgirls at his seminary. He was arrested on Thursday, 1st September 2022, six days after a complaint which was filed against him sparked protests in the southern Indian state of Karnataka. It was gathered that 'Sharanaru has denied the allegations and called it a conspiracy, he was charged to court on Friday and was remanded to 14-day judicial custody. The 64-year-old Hindu cleric has been charged under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.  The police have also invoked the Scheduled Caste Scheduled Tribe Atrocities Act against him after one of the survivors said she was a Dalit — formerly known as untouchables under India's caste hierarchy. Thousand Of People Celebrates "La Tomatina" Festival In Eastern Town Of Buñol In Spain.

People from around the world have yesterday, Wednesday 31st August 2022 pasted each other with tomatoes as part of the Spanish festival celebration known as "LA TOMATINA"  held on the last day of August every year, in the eastern town of Buñol. It has been two years since the even was last celebrated due to Covid-19 restrictions. People on trucks unloaded 130 tonnes of overripe tomatoes along the main street of the town for participants crammed below to throw, leaving the area drenched in red pulp on Wednesday. Up to 20,000 people paid 12 euros ($12) each to take part in the festival. The town’s streets were hosed down and the revellers showered off within minutes after the hour-long noon battle. The festival which was celebrated, on the last Wednesday of August every year, was inspired by a food fight between local children in 1945 in the town, located in a tomato-producing region. Recently, there has been a rapid emergence of a dangerous new psychoactive substance known as Akuskura/Kuskura, which is made of herbs laced with tobacco and cannabis and which is rapidly replacing controlled psychoactive substances, dominantly in the northern and south-west parts of Nigeria. When taken, the substance sometimes causes sudden, violent, irregular movement of the body and contraction of muscles.
