Former Deputy Senate President Wife, Beatrice Ekweremadu granted Bail By UK Court

Wife of former Nigeria's Deputy Senate President, Beatrice Nwanneka Ekweremadu, has been granted bail by the United kingdom Judiciary .

The former Deputy Senate President and his wife have been facing trial in the United Kingdom after being accused of allegedly plotting to traffic a man of age 21, to the UK to harvest a kidney for their daughter. 

The wife, Beatrice is charged with arranging or facilitating travel of another person with a view to exploitation, between August 1st 2021 and May 5th 2021, under the Modern Slavery Act 2015.
The former Nigerian Senator, Ike Ekweremadu is charged with conspiracy to facilitate travel of another person with a view to exploitation, known as organ harvesting.

The former Deputy Senate President's wife was granted bail under strict conditions, while her husband's bail application was denied. 
Speaking on the bail, Common Sergeant of London, Judge Richard Marks said; 

 ‘The position is that I have granted bail to "Beatrice subject to some fairly stringent conditions but I have refused bail to her husband "Ike.

Daily Mail reported that prosecutors are not appealing the decision. 

 The case began on 5th, May 2022 when the complainant presented himself at Staines Police Station and claimed he had been transported to this country for the purpose of his kidney being removed.

Investigations reveals that the complainant arrived on 20th February 2022 and was taken to Royal Free Hospital where tests were conducted.
According to him, on the purpose he arrived at the UK, he stated that he did not consent to the taking of his kidney.

According to Ike Ekweremadu's lawyer, Martin Hicks, he denied that there was any exploitation or any organ harvest with his consent as complainant alleges.

The couple are to appear at the Old Bailey Court on 4th, August 2022
